About Us
Susan Richard
Hey there! Some of you may have heard me on the radio on 1010WINS, where I’ve been anchoring the news since 1999 and am currently a member of the full time staff. After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, I got my first professional gig doing afternoon news at 103.9 WFAS-FM in Westchester County. Over the course of ten years I went on to serve as the Program/Music Director and host of both the midday and evening programs. In the 1990s I was also a part time disc jockey at K-Joy 98.3 on Long Island, and later returned to news anchoring at Shadow Broadcast Services where I was heard on 102.7 WNEW-FM and WQCD “CD 101.9”, among other stations. You can check out samples of my radio work at www.susanrichard.com.
As an actress, I am grateful to have enjoyed a recurring role as the voice of a TV News Anchor on ABC’s “All My Children”. On stage, I’ve appeared in New York productions including How To Go Out On A Date In Queens, Super Eros, And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little, Earth And Sky, Picnic and Our Town. I appear regularly in staged readings of plays around the city with Break A Leg Productions (www.breakalegproductions.com). Recent readings include Moliere's "The Jealous Husband", Wendy Wasserstein's "Boy Meets Girl", Peter Tolin's "Stay Carl Stay", David Ives' "The Philadelphia" and George Kelly's "The Flattering Word". I'm also involved in the Art & Science Series at the CUNY Grad Center, and have performed in numerous science-themed plays including "Pierre & Marie" (as Marie Curie) and "The Starry Messenger" (as Virginia Galileo). Training: Stella Adler Studio, T. Schreiber Studio and The School for Film & Television.

So why “All for Animals”, you ask. Well.. I’m huge animal lover whose family rescued several cats when I was a kid, including “Babe” the homeless kitten my mother picked up off the street in 1976 in Astoria, Queens. Ma walked in the door, opened up her Louis Vuitton purse and out popped this little fur diva who would quickly live up to her name (that’s her in the photo).
One of my current cats was purchased by someone else at a pet store. Very long story short, they didn’t properly take care of him and when I adopted him at 11 months old, he had pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung. I am mommy to a total of four (all rescues, including a one-eyed little boy whose morning wail for me to get up and feed him has replaced my alarm clock). I call them The Real Housecats of NY. They rule the apartment, hog the bed, poop way more than I thought was possible and have their own YouTube channel: realhousecatsofny.
There are a number of other cat rescue stories in my family (including the pregnant cat outside my Junior High School in Queens), but at the risk of going on and on (which I tend to do when talking about such matters), suffice it to say that animal welfare is just my thing, and I had been thinking that I’d like to find a way to use my ability as a broadcaster to further the noble cause of making New York a no-kill city. I think it’s terrible that perfectly adoptable animals are still being euthanized because of overcrowding. I decided I want to do something about it, and this is it.
Thanks so much for watching my little videos. It’s my intention that they provide New York area pet parents and animal lovers with some useful information – and – help get more homeless animals into loving homes. If you’re thinking about adopting, please make yours the next great rescue story.. with or without a designer handbag!
